Current Projects
1. Protein manipulation in Jefferson Hard Red Spring and Hard White wheat
A technique has been developed by LC&A using research of Dr. Ron Rickman, Pendleton Experiment Station. Protein of 14% has been achieved in six of eight years using this technique on Jefferson HRS. This project is written up in Agri-Times January 2006 Agronomy column authored by Larry Coppock
This project also includes Nutrient Management. Residual nitrogen samples have been taken after the crop is harvested to determine efficiency of nitrogen use. Total residual nitrogen has been as low as 48 pounds in top four feet and all years have been lower than 100 pounds residual nitrogen in the top four feet.
2. LC&A has completed for a client a feasibility study of On-Farm Bio-diesel production.
This is a grower producing just enough diesel for his operation.
3. LC&A has Haybuster Undercutters for demonstration, rent or sale.
See details in Undercutter page of this Web site.
5. Assisting growers with contracts with government agencies.
LC&A has performed several contracted research projects for a variety of entities; some were direct contracts, others were grants. LC&A can tailor service to meet your unique needs.
6. Long Term Farming Systems Research Trials
This research is directed at sustainable, dryland farming systems. Each of these trials are 10 acres in size using farm size equipment. One of the trials is 8 years in direct seed; one is conventional tillage and five are conservation tillage. Results are available from Larry Coppock & Associates. This project started as a cooperative effort by Agricultural Research Service-United States Department of Agriculture, Pendleton Experiment Station; Oregon State University Pendleton Experiment Station & Extensi0on Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service-United States Department of Agriculture, Umatilla County Soil & Water Conservation District and Coppock Ranch. Some successes, problems, trends, etc have emerged from various systems. A detailed explanation of these trials is available from Larry Coppock & Associates.
7. Variable Rate Fertilizing and Soil Sampling
Larry Coppock & Associates offer a variable rate fertility mapping analysis service to help farmers become efficient on operating a site-specific farm management program.
8. Weed Control Strategies
Changing to less soil disturbance farm systems results in different weed problems compared to traditional tillage systems. Recent LC&A help with growers has focused on cheatgrass, jointed goatgrass, wild oats, Russian thistle, china lettuce and all the associated broadleaf weeds.
